It’s only been 4 days since we’ve been in Austria although it feels more like 2 weeks. Not because we’re having a bad time, but because we’ve been through so many places and landscapes and countries in such a short time. (Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece.) I absolutely loved the so called “East-block” countries just because it’s such a contrast to what I’ve become used to in Germany and the rest of Middle- West-Europe. But not only that, the landscapes we’re also beautiful. It also amased me how people’s appearances changes the moment you cross a border. I dont really get it. Same goes for landscapes. These countries is nearly exactly as I’ve imagined it (due to different movies I guess.) The Macedonian coutryside looks very much like the Free State, South-Africa (Where I’m born and raised)

Me and Christoph has been doing alot of night-driving because it’s taking us forever to get away in the mornings. That’s abit stupid but we’re working on it and am slowly getting faster by “optimising” (like Christoph would call it) Due to that we arrived quite late last night in some small little greek town next to the ocean. Being both tired and irritated from driving most of the day and another 4 hours in the night, and hungry since we only had a bowl of meusli for breakfast, we had the huge luck of meeting Rosie. I’m not gonna get into the details now due to lack of patience, but long story short, Rosie is the owner of a lovely little Hotel/Guesthouse close to the ocean who allowed us to pitch our tents right on the terrace and spoiled us with the best gulasch I’ve ever tasted. (She used to have a Restaurant in Dortmund, Germany, so she definately knows how to cook) Then a lovely Jacob’s-coffee the next morning. On top of it, she didn’t charge us a cent for anything. Thanx Rosie!

(If any of you guys reading this might ever happen to look for accommodation in the Thessaloniki-area area I can strongly recommend Rosie’s lovely little spot:

App. Martin, Egnatias 80, 57021, Asprovalta, Thessaloniki. Tel: 00302397024460. email:jannis_asp@yahoo.gr )

It’s quite interesting to see how the people react towards, firstly, to how the fully packed motorbikes look like, and secondly, when they ask and we anwer that we’re driving to Capetown. Many of them don’t really get it at first and probably think Capetown is some camping spot a few km’s away. Untill you explain SOUTH AFRICA, CAPETOWN. Then the whole attitude changes. Sometimes you start to feel like a celebrity because of all the attention we’re drawing. I guess it won’t be such a good thing to attract all the attention in Africa, but that’s another story for another day.

Cheers vir eers.

Lieber Christoph,
